The Track Listing
I thought it might be wise to have an actual listing of tracks for the January CD, as there are a few anomalies that need explanation. If the track has a blue, hotlinked mp3 with the file size and time, you can download the track and have your mp3 player handle it.
- track 1: A7 - D9 with accent on beats 2 and 4
- track 2: A7 - D9 with accent on beats 2 and 4, plus an anticipation of the chord change on the "and" afer beat 4. mp3 (1.2 MB - 1:24)
- track 3: anticipation of beat 4 by moving it back to the "and" after beat 3. mp3 (1.1 MB - 1:18)
- track 4: standard Afro-Cuban 3 + 3 + 2 accenting pattern. mp3 (1 MB - 1:07)
- track 5: Bo Diddley or "Clave" Rhythm.
- track 6: Bo Diddley or "Clave" Rhythm - with paper towel mute right under the bridge.
- track 7: Bo Diddley or "Clave" Rhythm - with rubber band mute right under the bridge. mp3 (1.6 MB - 1:47)
- track 8: quasi-Latin or bossa rhythm - DMaj7/9 - GMaj7/9
- track 9: quasi-Latin or bossa rhythm - descending Aeolian progression in Bm.
- track 10: Shortnin' Bread: Once in straight-eighths and once in swing eighths.
- track 11: Swing-Eighths version of track 2.
- track 12: tuning D-A-C-D: D7 - G7 progression using D - D6 then G - G6.
- track 13: tuning D-A-C-D: moving dyads through D7 - G7 progression.
- track 14: 12/8 Study: just beat 1, 2, 3, and 4 accented.
- track 15: 12/8 Study: putting a measure of 3/4 against the first half of the 12/8 measure: 3 against 2.
- track 16: 12/8 Study: stretching a measure of 3/4 against the entire 12/8 measure: 3 against 4.
- track 17: tuning D-A-C-D: 12-bar blues progression with a boogie bass. This is actually exercise 18, because I took out the original track 17 and exercise 17, which was a demo of fingerpicking 12/8 polyrhythms in D-A-C-D. I really blew the performance, though, and it was NOT in the groove. I will put a good example on the February CD.
- track 18: tuning D-A-C-D: a L O N G 12-bar with a strong 2 and 4 back-beat feel. It has some distinctly Beatles influence.
- track 19, 20, and 21: These are all basically a groove on D to Bm: 2 bars on each. Track 21 is a two-track overdub, with the rhythm groove on one side and some two-handed tapping on the other. Track 19 has ONLY the groove, and track 20 has ONLY the tapping, so you can hear exactly what's going on without any distraction. mp3 (3.7 MB - 4:09)
